Affiliate Disclosure

How RoostMode earns money from affiliate links, why rankings and recommendations are not for sale, and how to tell an affiliate link from an ordinary one.

Some links on RoostMode are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer or brand may pay us a commission. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the store directly. This page explains how that works and what it does and does not change about the site.

How affiliate links work

When you follow an affiliate link, the retailer records that you came from RoostMode, usually with a tracking parameter in the URL or a cookie set on their site. If you complete a purchase within the retailer's attribution window, typically 24 hours to 30 days, we receive a small percentage of the sale. The programs we use or have applied to are run directly by e-bike brands such as Aventon, Lectric and Ride1Up; some of those applications are still pending, so a "Check price" button may be a plain link today and an affiliate link later. We do not receive any of your personal information from these programs, only aggregate click and sale counts.

What affiliate money does not buy

  • Placement in a buying guide, comparison table or "best of" list. Products are chosen for fit with a use case, price band and the published evidence about them, not for payout rate.
  • A softer verdict. If a bike has a known problem, we say so whether or not the brand has an affiliate program.
  • Dealer directory rankings. Dealers cannot pay to move up, and claiming a listing is free.

We also do not run an in-house ride-testing program, so nothing on the site is a paid "review" of a unit a brand sent us. Where we quote ride impressions they are attributed to the publication or owners who did the riding.

How to spot an affiliate link

Affiliate links usually point to a retailer's product page and may contain a tag such astag=, ref=, aff= or a short redirect through a link service. Buttons labelled "Check price" or "Buy" in buying guides are the most common place to find them. Links to manufacturer spec pages, news sources, dealer websites and other RoostMode articles are not affiliate links.

Sponsorships and other income

RoostMode does not currently run sponsored articles. If that changes, sponsored content will be labelled as such at the top of the page, and the sponsor will have no say over editorial conclusions. Dealer listing updates and claims are free; there is no paid tier that changes how a shop appears in the directory.

Regulatory disclosure

In line with the US Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and testimonials, we disclose that RoostMode may be compensated when you buy through links on this site. This page is updated when we join or leave a program. Questions about this policy can be sent through thecontact page.
